My name is Lhamu Tshering Lepcha , I’m from Phensong, Mangan District, North Sikkim.

The meaning of my name is blessing. I’m an amicable and honest. I am someone who love gardening and reading.


Lepcha language is important because it is our identity.

Why do you speak this language and work around the language?

It helps us stay connected to our tradition,culture values and our roots

What interested you most about working on translations of Lepcha to English and English to Lepcha?

One thing that interested me was as I being Lepcha through translation people from other community will also get to know our stories .

What were the challenges of the translation work?

Few words were tricky and to frame sentences the exactly as written in english.

What made you feel good about the translation work?

You learn something and my bit contribution in restoring lost oral stories.

What was the hardest word or sentence you translated and how did you go about finding the meaning behind the word?

Civilization was the hardest word I came across and took help from cousin who is working as a teacher.

Why is translation meaningful to you?

Meaningful because the stories we did will be able to read by younger generation which I think we miss it.
