A glimpse at some project themes
What is this project about?
The “Discovering Sacred Lands” brought Indigenous youths of the Mutanchi Rongkup community together with Knowledge Keepers and encouraged them to seek their sacred connection to the landscape and engage with their ancestral roots. It is a community-based project.
Storytelling
We acknowledged that stories carry the knowledge of Mutanchi Rongkup ancestors.
Sacred
We asked the participants to seek for the sacred within themselves.
Land
We encouraged the participants to embody elements of the environment they connected and build relationships with human and non-human beings—including felt unexplained presence.
Language
We addressed the importance of translation of language and of Mutanchi Rongkup worldview and discussed intent and the purposeful use of words.
Healing
We engaged in creating a safe space and using a language of care in all interactions.
Empowerment
We encouraged co-creation and reciprocal exchange among the contributors.

Through storytelling, Indigenous Mutanchi Rongkup youth were encouraged to build a safe space and to reconnect with and revive ancestral knowledge systems and engage with narratives on conservation in the fragile Himalayan region. Watch us talk at the Himalaya Conference in Toronto in 2022 on how we attempted to seek alternative research methods. which give back to the community and bridge the gap in intergenerational knowledge transfer.
