Ugen Palzor Lepcha (Afimoo) Chairperson of Hee-gyathang Biodiversity Management Committee and Executive Director of Mutanchi Lom Aal Shezum (MLAS) NGO Dzongu North Sikkim.
In 2002 Ugen Palzor was given the responsibility to lead the organisation Mutanchi Lom Aal Shezum (MLAS) NGO Dzongu North Sikkim. Since then he has been working and executing projects in different fields like Socio Cultural, Education, Health, SHGs, Ecotourism, Biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihood. Amongst others he filed the Lepcha Hat (Sumok Thaktuk) in GI registration and implemented some of the important assessment likes Khanchendzonga Landscape Conservation. He has been crucial in various internationally funded pogrammes, such as the Development Initiative (KLCDI), India program, under GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (NIHE), funded by ICIMOD Nepal. From 2017 to 2020 he worked on the project “Enhancement of capacities of key stakeholders on Natural fibre Handloom/Handicraft in Khanchendzonga-Upper Teesta landscape of Sikkim” under The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India and from 2020 to 2021 he took a crucial lead in the the UNDP GEF funded project SECURE Himalaya. It was under his efforts, the sacred Tungkyoung Dho (Lake) declared in He Gyathang, Dzongu, was declared the first Biodiversity Heritage Site of Sikkim on 8th March 2022.
