Alyen Foning

designer, artist & researcher

Alyen Foning is a designer, artist and researcher. She studied Textile and Apparell design at NID, Ahmedabad and has been working on various projects in the fields of clothing, textiled, printmaking, accessory, shoe and other product design, styling, interiors, lifestyle products, event décor, doll making and music for over 15 years now. The medium she expresses herself through is fabric. She uses fabric to showcase her stories, be it her own life story or stories of her community. She is heavily inspired by nature and indigenous world cultures. She is currently digging into herself, her ancestral roots, learning farming and gardening.

Aylen has developed a textile at narrative, which was part of an Anthology. Her installation drew from her research on the female shamans of the Lepcha tribe. It is based on oral histories and interviews with elders of the tribe and practicing Muuns. It was based on the journey back to her roots, and was published under the title The Story of the Muun.
