Hillock Rumfat (ritual)
The story is about a hillock ritual which is practiced by Lepcha búngthíng and mun (shamans) in Mongbyro Village. Mongbryo is situated between Kewzing and Legship in South Sikkim.
One upon a time, the people who lived in Mongbryo Village suffered from different kind of diseases and gradually faced difficulty in their living. Then they assembled together and decided to visit the búngthíng for magic religious practice.
After that they came up with the solution to get rid of the deadly incident but for this they had to perform the auspicious hillock ritual at their place. Since then, they started to follow this tradition. During this ritual, they have to offer various crop sees, fruits, eggs, hen-feathers and handmade wooden weapons along with vertical prayer flags. This ritual is usually performed by worshipping Mount Kangchendzonga as their guardian deity. In winter time, you will be enthralled by the beautiful appearance of mountains and Rongit River. Most of the people are unaware of this fact, only the Lepcha of Mongbryo Village are following this tradition till now, which shows the unity of a tribe.
