about me

Khamree to all. My name is Rachel Namchu. I am originally from Kalimpong but have been living in Siliguri for as long as I can remember.

My name is a very common, old testament name. It means ewe or a female sheep.

What I like most about myself is a difficult question but I think if I had to say something then it would be my ability to say no to the things I am not comfortable doing.

I was pleasantly surprised by how rich our heritage is. Felt bittersweet listening to all the stories, confused and a bit skeptical of their traditional healing and ritualistic methods. It felt like listening to some kind of fantasy folk tale and it was entertaining.”

What is storytelling to me?

Storytelling is not only about writing, poetry, songs and films but we could use more than the only mediums we knew to tell our story.

What is sacred to me?

I have included a picture of the pathway to my home, it’s not just home to humans but many shelter birds and animals. Everytime I walk back home and look at the path that leads me, I’m filled with ease and contentment.

Finding my sacred place

I feel more connected to my land and the nature that surrounds us.

I as a Lepcha

I missed being able to speak Lepcha language because I had plenty hiccups not being able to follow certain words and phrases.
