about me

Servo Khamree to everyone… My name is Marmit Lepcha and I am born and brought up in Sangdong, Dzongu, in North Sikkim.

Well I am not sure of the meaning of my name, however, I was told my name was kept by my grandfather and it was believed in earlier days that the name of a child should be kept according to the day you were born. And I was born on Tuesday.

I am proud of the culture and community that I was born into, where a woman’s voice is considered. And as for myself, I take pride in “myself” for doing the best I can for my community and people.

What is sacred to me?

Precious, protection.

I as a Lepcha

Being born Lepcha is not just a pride to me but it’s a blessing too.

For me everything is about learning and I will learn and do anything to keep my Lepcha pride always soaring high.”
